Mental Floss is a magazine about trivia and kind of random knowledge. They also have a web site.

The magazine itself doesn't have much to do with women's rights as such, but wrote about the bicycle's role, which is really quite supportable (and the article does support the assertion).

There is no 'why' for now. Probably simply that it is cycling season, or something. If you look at the kind of topics Mental Floss covers, they can be kind of random. It's the whole point for them.

CNN picks up a lot of content from content partners. A company I've worked for provided content to CNN. It's an efficient way of generating content for a news channel and/or web site; see also the ongoing success for a company like the Associated Press or Reuters, who at their very heart are third-party content providers.

The original link to the story, now that I dug for it:

i thought it was kinda odd that cnn ran some feature on bikes and women's rights from some org called mental floss.

first, who is mental floss?

second, what do they have to do with womens right?

third, why now?

fourth, why not cnn itself?

not that it's harming anything, but it's just very weird, the timing. you could make the link for bike month, and say, hey - "it's bike month, therefore we will print all this stuff about bike month" - maybe that's the only link?
