FREE Confident Cycling Class on 4/2

The Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota is serious about delivering bicycle education. So serious, in fact, that they are putting on a free half-day of Confident Cycling this Saturday, April 2, from 9:30am – 1:30 pm at the Midtown Bicycle Center. Local LCI (and sometime Ride Boldly! commenter) Hokan will be leading the course.

Pre-registration is essential, but [...]

Upcoming: Bicycle Safety Event at REI Bloomington (MN)

I will be co-presenting a free seminar on bicycle safety at the REI in Bloomington on March 25, starting at 7:00PM. The title is “Bicycle Safety is a Two-Way Street,” and fellow Minnesota LCI Lisa Austin and I will be covering Minnesota bicycle laws, principles of driving your bicycle in traffic, and other road-sharing concepts for [...]

Bike Events This Week (March 13-19, 2011)

It’s put on by HaveFunBiking.com with participation from the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota to provide a variety of educational experiences to encourage people to ride their bicycles this [...]

The organization conducts annual cyclist counts in the central Twin Cities core as part of the attempt to measure the [...]

Women & Bicycles

On this International Women’s Day, I thought I’d address one of the skeletons in the room when we discuss bicycle-friendly infrastructure and the interested-but-hesitant cyclist: A pretty good portion of that 60% is female.

Data suggests that men outnumber women on bicycles in the United States by a ratio of two-to-one. In many European nations, the ratio [...]

Riding With Kids: Teaching Children to Ride

A friend Tweeted this video the other day, and I feel the need to share. This is an excellent video about teaching a child to ride a bicycle on his/her own. The techniques shown would work equally well as part of an adult education class oriented to adults who never learned to ride as children for [...]
